Budnick Converting, Inc., headquartered in Columbia, IL (in the St. Louis, MO metropolitan area), is a privately held and female owned corporation. POSITION PURPOSE: To manage the end-to-end quoting and estimating process for custom converting projects. Play a key role in translating customer requirements into accurate and competitive quotes by coordinating with Sales, Customer Service, Production, and Purchasing. Ensure that all quotes reflect material specifications, manufacturing processes, and profit goals while maintaining exceptional responsiveness to customer needs. Assure new requests are reviewed and addressed within 8 hours or less of receipt.

QUANTITATIVE DATA: Must be able to remain in stationary sitting position for 75% of the time.  Must be able to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc., constantly operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine and computer printer.  This position requires frequent internal communication between departments; must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Asses new project opportunities and internal requests. Prioritize and allocate tasks based on urgency, project requirements, and resource availability.
  2. Track the process of ongoing projects, ensuring that completion deadlines are met. Proactively identify and address any delays or obstacles by communicating with the appropriate teams and adjusting as needed.
  3. Ensure that all internal teams are kept up to date on project timelines, scope changes, and delivery status. Maintain clear communication regarding any adjustments to schedules.
  4. Work closely with the sales team to determine final pricing and margins based on the project scope, resource requirements, and timeline considerations. Ensure alignment between the sales team’s quoted price and project feasibility.
  5. Identify potential risks that could impact project timelines or outcomes and develop solutions to mitigate these risks. Take action to resolve problems and minimize project disruptions.
  6. Work with sales representatives, business development representatives, other estimators and account managers regarding customer business, new opportunities, follow-ups on quotes and orders, managing business as a team.  Serve as the responsible team member to provide customer quotes.  Support all team members, covering each other as needed to help take care of the customer.
  7. Work with BOM Specialist with questions regarding the Bill of Materials in the ERP System.
  8. Work with Pricing Estimator to calculate & provide cost estimates.
  9. Perform duties safely and maintain a high level of safety awareness.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Assist in the development of long-term estimating strategies & help implement the plan(s) developed.  Communicate estimation ideas and accomplishments to the Estimation Manager.
  2. Assist in the training of new department employees.
  3. Alert Estimation Manager to conditions that create delays or affect quality of production work in a timely manner, assisting in adjustments and changes needed to meet established deadlines.
  4. Follow operation standards and all department policies and company directives and assist with other projects and tasks as required by management.

KEY QUALIFICATIONS: 

Knowledge: Clear understanding of the converting business.  Working knowledge of estimation processes.  Product knowledge and capabilities.

Skills: Excellent mathematical aptitude required.  Good organizational and problem-solving skills a must.  Should have a working competency with all office equipment.  Good interpersonal and communication skills required. 

Ability: Conduct business in a professional, positive, and courteous manner.  Listen effectively, respond clearly, write legibly, and read a variety of written orders/instructions.  Work cooperatively with a variety of individuals.  Gain the confidence and trust of others.  Adapt to interruptions, changes, emergencies, repetition, and pressure without losing effectiveness and composure.  Quickly grasp new concepts, approaches, or systems.  Employ resourcefulness when problem solving to meet customer needs. Occasional visits to the production floor or customer facilities may be required.

Education: High School diploma or equivalent.  Bachelor’s degree or course work related to general business, math, engineering, or industry specific topics desired.  CAD experience is helpful but not required.

Experience: Converting knowledge or previous experience at Budnick Converting a plus but not required.  Project Manager, Build of Material (BOM) Specialist, Estimator or Material Estimator experience helpful, but not required.

Hours: 8:00am – 4:30pm (in-office position)

FLSA Class: Non-Exempt

Reports To: Estimation Manager

Salary: $25-30/hr., paid bi-weekly, depending on experience.

Reimbursement of travel expenses that includes meals, flights, rental cars, gas and hotels.  Profit sharing starts after an employee has been with the company for 3 full years.
