IT Systems Administrator
Budnick Converting, Inc., headquartered in Columbia, IL (in the St. Louis, MO metropolitan area), is a privately held and female owned corporation. POSITION PURPOSE: The IT Systems Administrator is responsible for the administration, maintenance, and security of the company’s IT infrastructure across multiple locations. This role oversees network systems, cloud environments, endpoint devices, and IT support operations. The position requires hands-on technical expertise, strong problem-solving skills, and a proactive approach to ensuring reliable and secure technology operations that support business and manufacturing functions.
QUANTITATIVE DATA: Must be able to remain in stationary sitting position for 75% of the time. Must be able to occasionally move about inside the office, production and warehouse to access file cabinets, office machinery, production/shipping computers and machinery etc., Constantly operates a computer and other office machinery, such as a copy machine and computer printer. This position requires frequent communication with other employees; must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations. Position requires lifting and moving computer equipment (up to 40lbs), frequent stooping, kneeling or crouching to maintain computers systems under desks and in the server room. Ability to travel occasionally between facilities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Network & Infrastructure Management
- Manage, maintain and monitor the organization’s computer systems, servers, network hardware including firewalls, switches, VPNs, and wireless access points across multiple locations.
- Ensure optimal network performance, reliability, and security through proactive monitoring and maintenance.
- Implement and maintain systems security policies, including access controls, intrusion prevention systems, threat detection and firewall management.
Cloud & Systems Administration
- Bridge on-premises infrastructure with cloud technologies, an emphasis on automation, security and alignment with business goals and objectives.
- Administer, maintain, monitor and secure on-remises and cloud-based environments including Microsoft Azure and AWS.
- Implement, administer, maintain and monitor security measures. Conduct regular security audits to ensure and maintain security standards.
- Manage identity and access using Azure Entra ID (formerly Azure AD), Intune, and associated Identity and Access Management (IAM)
- Configure and maintain backup, business continuity, disaster recovery (BCDR) solutions in cloud and on-prem environments.
- Manage file systems and storage solutions across cloud and on-premises infrastructure.
Endpoint & Device Management
- Oversee IT asset management including desktops, laptops, and mobile devices across all sites.
- Configure and maintain physical desktops and workstations for office and manufacturing environments.
- Utilize endpoint management tools such as NinjaOne, Atera, or ConnectWise Automate for monitoring, patch management, and remote support.
- Ensure endpoint compliance, antivirus protection, and security policy enforcement.
Collaboration & Communication Systems
- Administer Microsoft Teams, including conferencing and phone system (VoIP) setup, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
- Support user access and integration between Microsoft 365 applications and collaboration tools.
Support & Service Delivery
- Manage and respond to IT support tickets, ensuring timely resolution and documentation of issues.
- Develop and maintain IT documentation, including procedures, network diagrams, and asset inventories.
- Provide technical support and training to end users across facilities.
Other Responsibilities:
- Perform duties safely and maintain a high level of safety awareness.
- Develop long term IT strategies & help implement the plan(s) developed; ensuring project milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Communicate IT ideas and accomplishments to the management team.
- Alert Management to conditions that create delays or affect quality of production work in a timely manner, assisting in adjustments and changes needed to meet established deadlines.
- Have a good understanding of all other departments’ procedures and programs to help determine the best hardware and software requirements for their positions.
- Ensure compliance with operation standards and all department policies and company directives and assist with other projects and tasks as required by management.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum 5 years of experience in IT systems or network administration, preferably in a multi-site or manufacturing environment.
- Experience with firewalls (e.g., Fortinet, Palo Alto, Cisco), VPN configuration, and switching/wireless systems.
- Strong hands-on experience with Azure, AWS, and Microsoft 365 ecosystems.
- Experience managing endpoint monitoring tools such as NinjaOne, Atera, or ConnectWise Automate.
- Familiarity with Intune, Azure Entra ID, backup and disaster recovery solutions, and Teams/VoIP systems.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong understanding of network configuration, server management and Azure/AWS cloud platforms, security best practices and cloud security frameworks.
- Proven experience implementing and managing modern IAM strategies using Azure Entra ID.
- Excellent at troubleshooting, systems tuning, performance monitoring.
- Strong documentation and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities across locations with minimal supervision.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a customer-service mindset.
Hours: 8:00am – 4:30pm (in-office position)
FLSA Class: Exempt
Reports To: IT Manager
Salary: $60,000 - $90,000 per year depending on experience
